Grant, most gracious Virgin, that we may be numbered among those whom Thou art pleased to love, to teach and to guide, to favor and to protect as Thy children. Obtain for us likewise a sincere loyalty to our Holy Mother the Church. Grant, Moreover, that we may follow, in all humility and meekness, the Church’s teaching and counsels and may be obedient to all her precepts, in order to be able here on earth to enjoy a peace that is sure and undisturbed, and to attain one day in heaven to everlasting happiness. Chaplet to the Holy Face
The Chaplet of the Holy Face is devoted to honoring the five senses of our Lord Jesus Christ and imploring God for the victory of His Church.
This chaplet consists of a Cross, thirty-nine beads—six large and thirty-three small—and a medal of the Holy Face. Daily recitation is considered beneficial to seek from God, through the Face of His beloved Son, the triumph of the Catholic Church, our Mother, and the defeat of her adversaries. The Cross reminds us of the mystery of Redemption; we should sign ourselves with it and proceed with the invocation. Deus, in adjutorium meum intende; Domine, ad adjuvandum me festina (Incline unto my aid, O God; O Lord, make haste to help me); followed by the Gloria Patri.
The thirty-three small beads symbolize the thirty-three years of Our Lord's earthly life. The initial thirty beads bring to mind His thirty years of private life, divided into five groups of six beads each. This division is meant to honor the five senses—touch, hearing, sight, smell, and taste—which are primarily associated with His Holy Face, and to pay tribute to the sufferings Our Lord endured through each of these senses.
St. Athanasius recounts that when devils were questioned about which verse in all of Scripture, they feared the most, they answered: “That with which the sixty-seventh Psalm commences; Let God arise and let them that hate Him flee before His Face.”

HISTORY OF THE HOLY FACE MEDAL
Less than a century after the revelations and mission were entrusted to Sister Marie de Saint-Pierre (the Carmelite of Tours) by Our Lord to establish a world-wide devotion to the Holy Face, Our Lord and Our Lady bestowed a similar mission upon Bl. Mother Maria Pierina de Micheli of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Immaculate Conception to further propagate this devotion.
In 1938, Our Lady appeared holding a scapular. On one side was the image of the Holy Face with the words "Illumina Domine Vultum Tuum Super Nos" encircling it, and on the other side, the Sacred Host was surrounded by rays of light with the words "Mane Nobiscum Domine" around it. This translates to "O Lord, may the light of Thy countenance shine upon us!" and "Stay with us, O Lord." Then, the Blessed Virgin Mary spoke the following words to Blessed Mother Maria Pierina.
“Listen to me very carefully and refer everything with exactness to the Father Confessor. The Scapular is a weapon of defense, a shield of strength, a pledge of love and mercy which Jesus wishes to give to the world in these tines of sensuality and hatred against God and the Church. Diabolic snares are being laid to tear the faith from men’s hearts, and evil spreads. True apostles are few, a Divine remedy is necessary, and this remedy is the Holy Face of Jesus. All Those who shall wear the scapular like this, and will make, if possible, a visit to the Blessed Sacrament every Tuesday, in reparation for the outrages that the Holy Face of my Son Jesus received during His Passion, and which He receives each day in the Eucharistic Sacrament, will be fortified in the faith, made able to defend it and overcome all difficulties within and without; and in the end will have a happy death under the loving gaze of my Divine Son.”
In 1940, the initial Holy Face medals were created using the image from the Holy Shroud. Mother Maria Pierina had reservations about producing medals rather than scapulars, but any uncertainties were dispelled by Our Lady. Pope Pius XII approved of both the devotion and the Holy Face medal.
Mother Mary Dorothy, the inaugural Abbess and founder of Annunciation Monastery, viewed a documentary on the life of Blessed Mother Maria Pierina on November 19, 2020, amidst the COVID pandemic. Subsequently, she passionately urged all the sisters to cultivate a profound devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus, bestowing upon each a Holy Face medal. The community assembled to listen to a sister recite from "The Golden Arrow," which chronicles Sr. Mary of St. Peter's visions, and then to Gorden Deery's "The Holy Face of Jesus Christ: Discovery, Journey, Destination" during dinner. Following her fourth stroke, Mother Dorothy relied on a motorized scooter for mobility within the monastery, adorning it with a Holy Face medal, which often captured her contemplative gaze. Our community's devotion to the Holy Face continues to flourish even after the passing of our beloved Mother Dorothy. In our monastery, numerous pictures of the Holy Face are displayed. This marks the fourth year we have conducted a novena to the Holy Face in preparation for the feast day. Every Tuesday, the community pays homage to the Holy Face by reciting the chaplet.
We have distributed over a thousand Holy Face medals at no cost to those interested. Should you wish to receive a medal, kindly notify us, and we will make arrangements to have one sent to you.
PROMISES OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST TO THOSE DEVOTED TO HIS HOLY FACE
I will grant them contrition so perfect, that their very sins shall be changed in My sight into jewels of precious gold.
None of these persons shall ever be separated from Me.
In offering My Face to My Father, they will appease His anger and they will purchase as with celestial coin, pardon for poor sinners.
I will open My Mouth to plead with My Father to grant all the petitions that they will present to M.
I will illuminate them with my light. I will consume them with My love I will render them fruitful of good works.
They will, as the pious Veronica, wipe My adorable Face outraged by sin, and I will imprint My divine Features in their souls.
